Joe Lieberman says "Our Troops Must Stay!"

There are politicians who place their (relatively) insignificant careers above their national calling, and then there is Joe Lieberman - who spoke his conscience (at grave political risk) through the Wall Street Journal after having just returned from his fourth trip to Iraq.

Senator Lieberman, a Democrat from Connecticut and Al Gore's running-mate in the presidential election of 2000, wrote an op-ed piece for the WSJ in which he made a very strong case for how we are winning the War in Iraq; and why we must finish what we have started.

In his editorial, entitled "Our Troops Must Stay", the Senator used the subtitle "America can't abandon 27 million Iraqis to 10,000 terrorists." And he couldn't be more right, as we face our nation's greatest challenge since the Cold War against the Soviet Union.

"Here is an ironic finding I brought back from Iraq. While U.S. public opinion polls show serious declines in support for the war and increasing pessimism about how it will end, polls conducted by Iraqis for Iraqi universities show increasing optimism. Two-thirds say they are better off than they were under Saddam, and a resounding 82% are confident their lives in Iraq will be better a year from now than they are today. What a colossal mistake it would be for America's bipartisan political leadership to choose this moment in history to lose its will and, in the famous phrase, to seize defeat from the jaws of the coming victory."
I highly encourage all of my readers, from both sides, to read this excellent article from Mr. Lieberman, which he ends with this message from one of our Marine Commanders after having asked him how public dissent and innacurate media back home had affected his troops:

"I would guess that if the opposition and division at home go on a lot longer and get a lot deeper it might have some effect, but, Senator, my Marines are motivated by their devotion to each other and the cause, not by political debates."
We should be very thankful to hear that, indeed.

Palestine Realizes a Dream ~ Another Victory for the Bush Administration

For the first time in modern history, Palestinians are managing their own international border. Rafah Crossing Station, on the Egyptian border of the Israeli-relinquished Gaza Strip, has been handed over to Palestinian control.

Hamas leader Mahmoud Zahar even showed up for the ribbon cutting ceremony. See this article by the World News.

Under an agreement personally brokered by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice last week, yet another seemingly unachievable goal has been reached in a volatile Middle East. While the Clinton Aministration strived in vain to keep the faultering "Roadmap for Peace" alive through exhaustive diplomacy with the unscrupulous and impotent Yasser Arafat, the Bush administration has had a more profound effect on the region - through the works of Secretary Rice and her predecessor Colin Powell, as well as our demonstrated resolve against tyranny and terrorism in Afghanistan and Iraq.

This is just one more example of how we are winning the War on Terror. In other recent news, our friend King Hussein of Jordan has just declared his very own war against terror, and former Baathist and Islamist (Sunni) Terrorists in Iraq are offering to lay down their arms and join the political process.

And yet, the Liberal Fringe insists that we are LOSING THE WAR ON TERROR!? They would rather that we did not hear this kind of news. But the March of Freedom is for everyone, including the Palestinians, and the Liberal Media had better start paying closer attention to actual news, rather than their own political agendas, or they will miss the parade completely.

Tired of Our Elected Leaders Bashing President Bush and Our Troops?

Are you sick and tired of the relentless undermining of our Country-at-War? Do you feel that these suddenly amnesia-riddled and disingenous Congressmen, who hold their political aspirations above their country and will say or do anything to that end, no longer represent us and our ideals at this turning point in history? Are you among those still holding out against the onslaught of Liberal Media rhetoric that has eaten away so much public optimism and true American grit? Now there IS something you can do - Read over this petition and see if you agree with it - if so, then click on the link and sign this petition!

In fact, I call on fellow bloggers to take up this task with me!

Yep, it's a petition and I don't normally endorse them. But this time, I just have to agree with the originator - we seem to be falling into a state of weakness, even national treachery. As our brave men and women in uniform voluntarily struggle against the forces of terror that have mercilessly plagued us since 1979, then literally rained down on us four years ago, our leaders are abandoning them and our Commander-in-Chief in this fight.

This petition will be hand-delivered to every member of Congress and party leaders.

"We the undersigned believe it is time to unite this country. These baseless political attacks must stop. We are at war! 160,000 US Armed Forces are in Iraq fighting and winning. They deserve better. We call on Democratic leaders to stop the attacks on the President and our troops. And we call on Republicans in Congress to do a better job of stopping these attacks and stand with the President and our troops as well!"

"We will deliver this petition the day of the Presidents next State of the Union address in 2006. Please sign your name and include your city as well. If you'd like a response from Congressional members in your state, include your mailing address as well. These attacks must stop. If they do not, we will lose the war in Iraq and the terrorists will win! Please take action and let your voice be heard today!"
Let me just add that I meet our troops coming home on a fairly regular basis, and they are overwhelming in staunch support of what WE are doing in Iraq - and if you ask them, they will tell you WE ARE WINNING THIS WAR, and most simply can't believe what lies are being told about their mission on the home-front!

It takes less than a minute - and you can also express your outrage in the "comments" section.

Fellow Patriots - What SAY YOU?

Who Lied? President Bush or the Democrats?

"Yada yada corrupt yada administration yada yada failed war yada"
Just who is it that lied to the American public, and the world, about Iraq, 9-11 and WMDs. Did President Bush twist intelligence so he could take us to war in Iraq? Does he actually see different intelligence than the legislative branch - or did they simply not read what was provided them?

Turns out that the Administration said some misleading things (as administrations are wont to do), but the Democrats are WAY OFF on this one - and in light of their scathing accusations are looking like lying fools over their own inadequate research....er, they would be if the Main-Stream Media carried this story!

Enter FactCheck.org - the bane to both sides of the aisle at times, but an organization that has "no horse in the race," so to speak. Check out the article entitled Iraq: What Did Congress Know, And When? from these folks - it will open your eyes!

GOP Shouts "NO" to Democrat's Weak Pullout Resolution

In a stunning move to cut off a Democrat's resolution to immediately pull out of Iraq, Republicans in the House of Representatives called a vote on Resolution 571, which was a response to an earlier proposition by Rep. Jack Murtha. This was a non-binding resolution for a pullout from Iraq, to begin immediately. A winning "yes" vote for this rather obvious condemnation of American strength and resolve would have sent a disastrous signal of weakness to the World, our enemies and our own troops. In other words, a "No" trumped a "No."

Resolution 571: "It is the sense of the House that deployment of US forces in Iraq be withdrawn immediately."

This was shot down - in fact, because it was a recorded vote it got CREAMED. Representative Murtha, a formerly staunch supporter of this war and highly decorated veteran who makes a moving case for mistakes made and difficulties still faced, failed to solicit the Republican majority to abandon party policy and solidarity.

The last word went to Rep. Sam Johnson of Texas, the most hightly decorated Veteran of Congress speaking of how the troops in Vietnam were abandoned by the American public and press, "I will never, ever let our nation make that mistake again."

As one Republican Congressman put it, echoing the theme of many others of his party: "I respect Mr. Murtha, but this is the wrong time for your resolution." It would seem that Mr. Murtha did accomplish one thing by forcing this republican counterblow - which may well have been his intent all along; this made us think very hard about what we are doing, and how important it is to get it right - then leave when we can.

What is UNCLE SAM Saying to YOU?

"HEY! I GOT SOMETHING TO SAY TO YOU!!!"
Here is an interesting EXERCISE: Try to imagine, in your heart of hearts, what it is this guy would say if he was real and could actually speak to you and us. And let's narrow down the subject matter a bit:

The War in Iraq (Part of the Global War On Terror)

And here are some scattered thoughts to get you started:
  • Lagging support for the war

  • 25,000,000 people liberated in Iraq alone

  • Democracy spreading through the Middle East

  • No WMDs were found

  • Over 2,000 dead American troops

  • Former Administrations WEAK on Terror
  • "Allies" like France, Germany and Russia against coalition while complicit in illegal weapons deals and the Oil for Food Scandal
  • New Constitution and Government elected in Iraq

  • Dems who voted to authorize war and decried Saddam now blaming the President for "Misleading us into War"

  • Today's passed resolution and rejected proposal in the Senate

  • HUGE voter turnouts in Iraq (higher than our own elections)

  • A deposed Tyrant who had used WMDs on millions of people

What do you suppose ol' Uncle Sam might say about it all right now? Just look at the old, stern, proud guy. Look him dead in the eye - he is obviously feeling pretty strongly right about now. What's on his mind? Is he Angry? Righteous? Sad?

Happy Ranting!

I Never Knew His Name

Most of my readers know by now that I tend to be Conservative on issues like a strong Military and Intelligence - and that while I do not agree with all decisions or actions of the current Administration, I do indeed support this President in the War on Terror. What you may not know is that I am without a religion (unless one can call agnostic a religion).

That being said, I still marvel at what is done in the name of religion - the heroic and completely selfless GOOD that is inspired and done by so many missionaries, clergy and congregations of organized religion can truly take my breath away. But on the other hand, the pure and acrimonious EVIL justified and promoted by the bald-faced hijackings of religion can also leave me breathless in utter shock and dismay.

But even I, an "Alpha Male" and (according to my wife) "Man's Man" (whatever the hell that means), who admittedly suffers few fools other than himself and remains bereft of a God, can be inspired to the proverbial heavens - even driven to tears - by a simple act of godliness. Here is one such tale:

-------------------------------------
I Never Knew His Name
The true face of Muslim martyrdom.

By Chaplain Carlos C. Huerta

Mosul, Iraq — It is October 11 as I write this, the day before Yom Kippur. The Day of Atonement is supposed to be a day of fast, reflection, and prayer for the Jews: a time when I reflect on my own actions and intentions from the previous year. But the images I carry into my fast are sad ones, of someone else’s child, a Muslim child. There is blood spattered on my uniform despite the fact that I haven’t been hit or wounded. And yet it is B-positive blood, my own blood, mixed with the blood of a nine-year old Iraqi boy who was observing his fast during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Today there was a terrorist attack at a place most people have never heard of. Unless you’re a soldier stationed here, the name Tal Afar would probably be insignificant to you. But Tal Afar means a lot to me.

Today some terrorists decided to kill some Iraqi citizens — good Muslims — in order to discourage them from voting on Saturday on the new constitution. These terrorists called themselves Muslims and claimed that what they did was for Allah. But their connection to Islam is about as true and strong as Timothy McVeigh’s connection to Christianity. What they did is so contrary to the holy teachings of the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) that to say their name in the same breath as Islam is considered sacrilege.

I was at the Combat Support Hospital — known as CASH — when the call came: Terrorists had hit, no American casualties, but 22 Iraqis wounded, five of whom were children under the age of twelve. I stood on the tarmac watching as the MEDEVAC choppers came in one at a time to deliver the wounded. Many of the wounded had no legs, or deep chest, head, and abdominal wounds. I noticed the children, two in particular who had severe head trauma. I followed them into the ER and then watched our physicians struggle in the OR to stabilize them. After the physicians did what they could, the children were taken to the ICU. I helped carry their stretchers into the ICU and stood by to see if I could help. I had a serious conversation with G-d and pleaded with him to take care of these kids — kids who should be playing soccer, or doing their homework for school the next day, or helping their parents get ready for supper. Both of these children had skulls so badly shattered that their heads needed to be bandaged to keep their brains in. I watched as the nurses and medics gave them pint after pint of blood and as their head bandages turned from white to red. I held the youngest one’s hands, reassuring him to the extent I could.

As they were giving the youngest his third pint of blood, I heard the nurse say that they were running low on O Positive, the universal donor, and that due to the tremendous internal bleeding, this child would need more. I asked what blood type he was, and it turned out both children were B Positive, my own blood type. I went to the head nurse and asked if I could donate blood for the youngest child and they quickly hooked me up and took a pint. After giving it, I went back to see him; he already my blood hooked up to him and surging in his veins.

I held his tiny hand and watched as the monitors told the story: His heart was in trouble owing to the brain trauma. I watched as he fought for his life, fighting to breathe. But I knew he was dying and there was nothing I could do. This innocent Muslim child, who had been observing Ramadan the way a child does, was now dying despite the fact that my blood was moving though his veins, despite the fact that I pleaded with G-d to do what I thought was right, to keep him alive. But G-d had other plans.

I didn’t want this boy to die hearing the strange sounds of a hospital and a foreign language. I wanted him to be comforted by the last sounds he heard, by words that were close to his heart, words that spoke of home and faith. I started to recite the Holy Koran to him.

My close friend, a fellow clergyman, Imam Burgos, the imam for the United States Military Academy, had helped me learn Surahs of the Holy Koran, and I chanted these out to the boy in Arabic. As I chanted, I heard the monitor go flat-line. I held his little hand, as my blood moved through his tiny pure heart that could no longer bear the evil of this world.

I held his hand and cried — cried for a boy whose name I didn’t know, for an innocent Muslim child who gave his life for his G-d, Allah, for his country. He was the true face of Muslim martyrdom. With tears streaming down my face, I looked down and noticed blood on my uniform. His blood, my blood, our blood had dripped from his open head wound onto my uniform.

An hour or so later I walked away into the waiting area as they prepared his body for transport. There I met Chaplain Mark Greschel, a Catholic priest. He looked at me and knew that I was in trouble. He sat with me, somehow knowing that the pain we felt was best not mixed with words. He quietly put his arms around me, and we both sat there in silence. I thought to myself, isn’t this the kind of world we are fighting for — a world where an Imam teaches a Rabbi words from the Holy Koran to comfort a young Muslim boy, and that rabbi himself is comforted by a Christian, a Catholic priest.

On this day before Yom Kippur, the Jewish Fast Day, the Day of Atonement, I ask myself: What is Ramadan all about? Is it about killing, or is it about seeking out G-d through fasting and prayer? For those of us who choose not to carry hatred and prejudice in our hearts, the answer is simple. For the holy Islamic community, Ramadan is a time of introspection, of hope, of belief that if we all work together, we can truly build a better world for all our children, even those whose names we don’t know. There is so much that we can learn about faith and G-d through other religions; there is so much that our Muslim brothers and sisters can teach us about our Creator, about personal sacrifice and selfless service. But if we consider their faith only with mistrust, hatred, and indifference, then this nine-year-old angel with his faith in G-d means nothing. Then we have diminished our own faith in G-d. If we objectify the Muslim people as well as those who don’t share our exact views on the nature of G-d, if we see them as less than our brothers and sisters, then we as a human race are lost.

There are many Americans who ask why we’re here. Why are we sacrificing so many American lives and placing so many in harm’s way? What is the purpose of it all? Well, I don’t really know the big picture. But from my small sector of the battlefield, the reason I am here is to give “the least of these,” my children over here, a shot at “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” — just like my other children living in America.

I didn’t give birth to him, but on this fast day in Ramadan, on this day before Yom Kippur, I lost a son, someone who had my blood coursing through his body. And for him, I choose not to hate, I choose to follow the path that the great Sheik Ibn Arabi followed when he said, “Love is my Faith and my religion and wherever its caravans take me, that is where I shall follow, for love is my religion and faith.” Let us join hands with our Muslim brothers and sisters and let this be the message of Ramadan that we carry in our hearts and take with us. G-d has a new Muslim angel in Paradise. I hope to tell you his name one day when I meet him again.

Want some Good News from Iraq?

"Thank you, America!"
I have chosen not to write about Veterans Day, nor about President Bush's excellent speech. While I think the celebration and the speech are both extremely important - easily worthy of my humble blog-o-talents demonstrated herein, I often tend to let the more popular headlines go because they are being covered by, well, everyone else. They simply don't need my help!

This story does - and it needs to get out to the American public.

Liberal politicians, pundits and welfare-grubbing moonbats are fond of pointing out that the Iraqis "Didn't accept us (the coalition) with open arms and flowers." Well, a very large portion of Iraq did just that -- and they still sing our praises!

First, check out this excellent commercial by an organization called "Kurdistan - The Other Iraq."

Then, contemplate what this means to those 50 million people in the world that the coalition have liberated. There is good news out there - but good luck finding it in Main-Stream Media.

Still not convinced? For the broader view of Iraqi progress, check out Iraq the Model for an Iraqi view from the inside. Then, if you are incredibly stubborn and simply refuse to believe good things about Iraq, give it one more shot at Operation Iraqi Children.

And for all of my comrades, past and present, Happy Veterans Day!

230 Years Defending Freedom - The U.S. Marine Corps

"Step it up YOU MAGGOTS!!!"
As a career Navy man, I would normally refer to my "Devil Dog" shipmates, now colleagues and friends, as "Jar-Head," "Leather-Neck," or any number of colorful terms of, er, endearment. But they were always held in my highest esteem (even if I didn't necessarily tell them that), and when it comes to discipline and esprit de corps, NO ONE has it over these most excellent American Patriots. As defenders of our way of life, there is no way we can thank them enough for what they have done and sacrificed for us over these 230 years.

"There is a special aura surrounding the word "Marine." It means something different than a soldier, a cut above, and more can be expected from this person. Pride and cockiness are the trademarks of Marines, the strongest brotherhood in the world. To serve in the Marine Corps is to serve in an organization that demands and delivers excellence beyond all others. Service in the Marines leaves a lasting impression upon the innermost being of everyone who is privileged enough to serve. "Once a Marine, Always a Marine." To dispute this is to invite a brawl." ~ A Former Marine
After having spoken to many Marines about why on Earth they would join the strictest of all military branches, the answer usually has something to do with the idea of Grit. They either want it, want to prove they have it, or already have it and no other uniformed service could satisfy it.

History of the USMC
The Corps got its first sense of identity from (in fact was largely modeled after) the British Royal Marines. The USMC emblem was also inspired by that of the Royal Marines - unlike other military branches, neither incorporates a shield signifying defense (suggesting singleminded offense, perhaps).

During the War of 1812 with England, the British burned every public building in Washington D.C. (including the White House). Every one, except for the U.S. Marine barracks which was spared out of respect.

See this great rundown of U.S. Marine History RIGHT HERE!

Reality Check: For those set against our War on Terror and are horrified at the price this war has exacted in Iraq; and especially for those who gleefully decried (and, it has to be said, reveled in) the landmark 2,000th military death after more than two years of fighting, here is something to think about: 2,321 U.S. Marines died in six hours during the Battle of Iwo Jima. I think it is safe to say that the overwhelming majority of these Brave Men and Women of the Marines believe in what they are doing, and now MORE THAN EVER, along with their brave Army, Air Force and Navy comrades, they need our support. Why not say a simple "Thanks!" whenever you see them? It costs nothing to say it, and to them it means everything

Happy Birthday, Devil Dogs! and Semper Fi!

Jimmy Massey ~ Ex-marine miscreant caught spinning lies

"Hi! I'm a lying, treacherous former Marine asshole"
Welcome to the dark side story of an American G.I. Unlike the heroic Corporal Jeffrey Starr story (below), this is about former Marine Staff Sergeant Jimmy Massey - who would twist his own military experiences, and those of others, beyond resemblance to the truth for profit and exposure.

For over a year, Massey has been playing a modern-day John Kerry, in personal appearances and writings here and abroad, in which he claims to have committed atrocities, along with his Marine comrades, against Iraqi civilians. He made appearances with wacko Cindy Sheehan and even wrote a book, Kill! Kill! Kill! which was released in France. The only thing he forgot was the Ghengis Khan reference.

Massey was discharged in December 2003 after returning from Iraq due to "depression and post-traumatic stress syndrome."

Now, through his own admissions, those of embedded reporters and his fellow Marines in the field, it turns out that none of this was true. To read more on the story and the lies from this pathetic stain on on otherwise noble group of men and women, read this article by Ron Harris in the St. Louis Post Dispatch and the subsequent article by Michelle Malkin.

There is a plethora of Left, Progressive, Communist, Islamic and other shifty news sources and blogs that have bought into the fiction told by Massey, but you won't find those links here (you'll have to google them yourselves). If you do look into them, just prepare yourself for the damage done by this lying, disingenuous slug.

New York Times twisting words of Dead Hero Cpl Starr

Let me get this straight - an American Newspaper, while paying "tribute" to the 2000th fallen G.I. in Iraq, mischaracterized a letter from a dead Marine to his family, paraphrasing his words to support their anti-war agenda? This letter, found on the laptop of Corporal Jeffrey Starr, was intended to be read by members of his family in the event of his death. Here is the hack-job this Liberal Rag did to this brave Marine:

NY Times quoted just this: "Obviously if you are reading this then I have died in Iraq. I kind of predicted this, that is why I’m writing this in November. A third time just seemed like I’m pushing my chances." ((WHY DID THEY STOP THERE???))

The actual letter reads on: "I don't regret going, everybody dies but few get to do it for something as important as freedom. It may seem confusing why we are in Iraq, it's not to me. I'm here helping these people, so that they can live the way we live. Not have to worry about tyrants or vicious dictators. To do what they want with their lives. To me that is why I died. Others have died for my freedom, now this is my mark."

What an excellent, selfless and mature statement from this brave 22-year old man. What a heartless and transparently political travesty by this Newspaper, which has lost all credibility.

According to Jeffrey's Uncle, just before leaving for his third tour Jeffrey said this to him "If we (Americans) don't do this (free the Iraqi people from tyranny) who will? No one else can."

If you would like to show your concern about this nonsense, Byron Calame, the Public Editor for the New York Times, can be reached at Email: public@nytimes.com.

Harry Reid is having a MELT DOWN!

"Hey! I'm LOSIN' IT HERE!!!"
Is Harry Reid having a nervous breakdown, or is he simply the worst actor to the right side of Hollywood? (Well Nevada isn't far off, I s'pose).

"Rove should resign!"

"Bush and Cheney should apologize for the leak!"

"I'm losing my mind!"
(okay, he didn't actually say that! But everyone else in the room probably did).
Check out the story from Fox News right here. And make it fast - Harry might not last through the night!
